Eat Green Foods
We’ve heard of the going green movement, but how about we start an Eat Green Foods movement for our health! If you look at our Alkaline Food Chart you will see that the best alkalizers are all green. Well this is no coincidence! In fact most of our fellow mammals eat a green diet. Green vegetables are rich in chlorophyl and minerals, and are the best source of nutrition to respond to our body’s needs. Here are some of our favorites:
Kale: I think one of the most read articles in the history of our blog has been the “Top 7 reasons why kale is the new beef.” Kale is a natural anti-inflammatory, it is rich in calcium, iron, fiber, potassium and folate, as well as omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A C, and K.
Watercress: watercress works as both an antibiotic and an antibacterial. It is a great source of antioxidants and essential nutrients that are great for cleansing and preventing disease.
Collard greens: similar in nutritional value to kale, collards are a great addition to a balanced alkaline diet. Try using them as wraps, they make for a great raw meal!
Spinach: this list is in no specific order, as it would be very difficult to say that one of these green foods is better than the other. Spinach is another one of our all time favorites, we eat it almost every day! Spinach is a great source of folate, manganese and vitamins K, A and C among many other nutrients.
Broccoli: another big favorite in an alkaline diet is broccoli. Research has proven over and over again that broccoli has great cancer and disease preventing properties and that is supports digestive and cardiovascular health. It also helps boost your immune system and supports metabolic and skin health.
Celery: not as dark in color, but as amazing in nutritional value, celery is a fantastic alkalizer. Its high water content makes its nutritional content easier to absorb in the body. Great source of vitamin C, phthalides, and coumarins. These nutrients have been show to lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of certain cancers. Celery is a great cleanser and diuretic as well.
So here are 6 amazing green veggies. They are not the only good green foods, this article could go on an on with other amazing foods I could add to this list, but as we always say, we don’t want to overwhelm you.
