An alkaline lifestyle is a lifestyle where you understand the importance of maintaining balance in your body and your life. It involves your diet, your sleeping and exercise habits, your stress levels, and pretty much every aspect of your life. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to one marker, your pH. When our lifestyle allows our body to maintain a balanced pH, we can prevent, and even revert disease, and we can stay fit and looking younger for longer.
The opposite to a balanced pH, is acidosis. Acidosis basically means having too much acids in your body fluids. Unfortunately, with our modern lifestyle, most people suffer from acidosis to a certain level. Your body will do everything in its power to fight acidosis and defend its pH balance, but it is these measures our body takes that affect our health and appearance. When the body becomes too acidic, it will need to take minerals from our bones and other vital reserves to balance out its pH, and this leads to problems like osteoporosis and other decay diseases. So our choices are responsible for preventing these diseases, or increasing our risk of getting them. When your diet is rich in alkaline foods, and rich in alkaline promoting activities, like walking, breathing properly, sleeping properly, having positive feelings, etc, you will be in a much better position to protect your health, and even your appearance.
And what does our appearance has to do with this? Well a whole lot!! One of the ways in which our body protects itself against acidosis is by accumulating fat! A lot of people are fighting against a fat problem, when that may be only a symptom of a bigger problem, an acidosis problem. In an effort to carry excess acid waste away from vital organs, the body creates fat cells that take this acid waste to less vital parts of our body. So that fat will stay there as long as you stay acidic. When you start living an alkaline lifestyle, and those acid wastes circulating your body start becoming less and less, your body will stop producing extra fat, and will start getting rid of the fat it already has. This is a pretty desirable side effect of being more alkaline!!
As if that was not enough, an alkaline lifestyle reduces the presence of free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for premature aging and decay. So a slimmer body and a younger looking you are just some of the benefits of being alkaline, who does not want to sign up for this?
You see, we are talking about something that affects our body as a whole. The important thing to understand here is that acidosis is not only associated with your digestion like some people think. It affects every single aspect of your health and your body functions. Even your energy levels are associated with it, energy loss, or lethargy are also caused by acidosis.
Most diseases we suffer, from skin problems, to allergies, to life threatening diseases are produced by an imbalance in the body. Some experts even call all of them “symptoms”, and not “diseases” per se. When we promote balance in our body, our body will heal itself, and those problems will be more likely to disappear without the need of medicines or extreme measures, which unfortunately acidify our body even more.
If you start making small changes in your diet and lifestyle, these will add up, and the benefits will start to come. Start by eating a more alkaline diet, this alkaline food chart may help. Find a few alkaline foods you like, and make a conscious effort to eat them as much as possible. Another very very important aspect of being alkaline is hydration, make sure you are drinking enough water everyday. And complement this with positive emotions, laughing and breathing deeply often, sleeping enough, and doing some kind of exercise. All of these things have big alkalizing properties, and will help you improve your health, and yes, your appearance too!!
