When we look at our children, and the scary health statistics on their generation, we have to wonder where are they headed? Dr. David Katz, head of Preventative Medicine at Yale University was quoted saying that “Kids are more harmed by bad nutrition, than by alcohol, drugs, and tobacco combined”. Sugar has become their drug, but, since it is not regulated as so, it is constantly being advertised to them. Where are our kids heading in terms of their health?
We are seeing more and more obese and sick children. We are seeing type 2 diabetes, which used to be an adult disease, in younger and younger kids. We are facing a health crisis with our children. Now the question is, what are we doing about it? And an even bigger question is: are those campaigns being effective?
We must teach our children how to eat healthier and make better lifestyle choices. They are willing to help if we take the time to teach them. I have done several talks at local schools, and it touches my heart to see how, many times, kids are more interesting in learning and in becoming healthier, than adults.
