Bad body odors are caused by bacteria growing on the body.  When our body fluids are too acid, one of the ways in which our body reacts, in order to bring maintain that alkaline balance is by sweating out the acid.  This excess acid causes bacteria to overgrow, causing that uncomfortable bad smell. So it is important to know that the problem is not sweating. Healthy people sweat. Sweat is a way for our body to cool us down, and to ger rid of toxins in the body. But what determines whether or not that sweating comes with bad odor is directly related with the alkaline balance in your body.

Many bodily functions make us acid and the natural reaction of the body is to return to that healthy pH balance. The food we eat, our levels of stress, lack of sleep, the chemicals we are exposed to, and even exercise contribute to making our body more acidic. When this acidifying factors are stronger than the body’s natural ability to stay alkaline, our health deteriorates, and we start developing disease and other problematic symptoms like bad odor, for one.

The problem of bad body odors can be treated in through two different approaches. A preventative approach, basically through diet, and a reactive approach, meaning external hygienic remedies.

An alkaline diet will cleanse the body. This will result is sweat without smell. You will benefit from the cleansing and cooling qualities of sweating, without the over acidity that causes the bacterial overgrowth and hence the bad smell.

Apple cider vinegar’s cleansing properties have been associated with eliminating body odor. It aids with restoring the alkaline balance in the body. Experts recommend to Drink a tablespoon two or three times a day, this will have cleansing and alkalizing effects in your body. Drinking lemon water may help you attain similar results. These are both great alkalizers.

Kombucha tea has also been recognized as an alkaline forming food, and has been associated with aiding with bad odor problems and detoxifying.

While you work on improving your diet, and reaching that desired alkaline balance, some external hygienic strategies may help you deal with the problem immediately. Applying baking soda to the area will neutralize odor. It is very alkalizing, and will prevent bacteria from overgrowing through the day. I have personally not tried it, but found several websites taking about it’s amazing results, and I believe it, I love baking soda for its many uses, and for its alkaline properties.

Other websites talked about applying lemon, and leaving it for a few minutes before the shower.

My recommendation, drink plenty of water and alkalize your diet, you will see the results soon enough, and they will be permanent!

  1. Hello Tatiana: I heard you on the Dr. Wagner’s radio program and am very impressed by your knowledge about foods especially when your background is engineering. I would like for you to educate me if you would on how I can take better care of my very dear wife. She suffers from memory loss and is a breast cancer surviver. Thank God that I still have her I haven’t very much time right now to research your website because my time is consumed with meal preparations , cleaning and all the other chores that my wife used to do. I’m also involved in wrenching control away from what used to be my ” apple of my eye “. She has become a terror and so far has control over my life and my wife. And the oposite is also true, feelings of stress, anger or hate are very acidifying, so as much as possible help her have more positive emotions and keep negative emotions at bay.
