Specific conditions call for specific treatment, and there is a place for calcium supplements at a certain point, for certain people. The problem is society, and marketing, have convinced us that we need to take vitamins or minerals in megadoses as part of our everyday routine.
Our body is not made to assimilate fragmented megadoses of any specific nutrient. Our body works best when provided a wide arrange of nutrients in their natural form. These nutrients come in small amounts, if we compare them with the content in the bottle of any commercial supplement, but when they work together, in synergy, they are many many times more effective than that one nutrient in thousands of miligrams.
We have talked about this subject before, and we have discussed how the best sources of calcium available are vegetarian. But I wanted to talk specifically about calcium supplements, as they seem to have become part of most people’s daily diet.
